• Avoid giving money to the beggars; instead help the local associations or orphanages.
• Always bargain while doing shopping.
• Many shops are closed on Sundays.
• On Weekdays, small shops are usually closed from 1pm to 4pm for lunch.
• Remove shoes at the entrance of a house, temple, mosque or even some shops.
• Shorts or very tight clothes worn by women may attract unwanted attention.
• Avoid drinking tap water. Drink bottled mineral water.
• Always carry mosquito repellent in the evening.
• It is advisable to wear cotton clothes during the day and open sandals.
• If you're going to be there in the rainy months, umbrellas are an absolute necessity.
• Guesthouses or Accommodations operated by Sri Aurobindo Ashram have a strict policy on No   Smoking, No Drinking and the gates are closed by 10.30pm.
• Pondicherry Tourist Information Centre is located at 40 Goubert Salai. It is open daily from 8:45 am to 1 pm and then again from 2 pm to 5 pm.
